Re-enacting d-day

Every year, a re-enactment of the D-Day invasion is held at Conneaut, Ohio. These are serious WW2 re-enactors - they dress in period-appropriate costumes, and spend the three-day weekend in simulated camps, each camp grouped by the nationality they are re-enacting. (I'm not a camper, so I find this part seriously impressive - they spend the weekend living in their period-appropriate tents in the middle of the summer!)

Every afternoon they simulate a few of the D-Day skirmishes, finishing with acting out the D-Day landing on the beach at Conneaut State Park, where allied "soldiers" storm the beaches against resistance from the "axis" soldiers.

I am always amazed at the level of detail that serious re-enactors put into their costumes. They may not be as flashy as the costumers at Venice's Carnival, but they are every bit as serious about getting all the little details right.
Photography Re-enactors

My favorites, of course, were the re-enactors for war photographers and correspondents, where I got to geek out talking with them about the period cameras they brought with them...
